Told London was founded by Lillie and Christopher Edgar, who met on the first day of their MSc in Aberdeen. Lillie grew up in the Seychelles and spent childhood visits at her grandparents’ home in India, where fragrance was part of ordinary life long before it was a profession. Christopher trained in law and finance, then retrained as a garden designer. They founded the brand in 2023 and launched it in 2025, to make fragrances that hold real places, in objects worth keeping.

It means a scent is composed the way a painting is composed, by people who have given their lives to the craft, and that it deserves an object worth keeping. Every piece carries original artwork, hand-drawn by the British artist Kerry Lemon for the place the fragrance comes from and fired onto the porcelain. Have You Been Told? Our fragrances are composed with world-class perfumery houses. Every house was briefed on every fragrance, and we chose the compositions that came closest to the place and the feeling we were reaching for. City Grandeur, London and Dancing Light, Lake Como are by Ruth and Nic Mastenbroek. Glorious Gardens, England is by Andrea Montanari at Givaudan, Highland Retreat, Scotland by Julie Dunkley at Sozio, Night Blooms, India by CPL Aromas, and Island Breeze, Seychelles by Fragrance Oils.

Porcelain is a precious material, the material of objets d’art, fine and cool to the touch and made to be kept rather than thrown out when the fragrance is finished. Ours is illustrated by the British artist Kerry Lemon, whose drawings for the place each fragrance comes from are fired onto the porcelain. The illustration is part of the work rather than decoration added to it.

A refill brings the fragrance back, and with it the place it holds and the mood it puts a room in. The porcelain you already own stays exactly as it is. A candle refill is a full candle made for your vessel, and a diffuser refill brings fresh fragrance and new rattan reeds. Invest in the porcelain once, and refill the fragrance for years.

Fragrance is usually a consumable: bought, used, thrown away. We make the opposite. The porcelain is yours for life, illustrated and built to be kept, and the fragrance is refilled when it runs low. The pleasure lasts because the object does.
